In light of the current Covid-19 outbreak, the Calgary Elementary School Math Contest is canceled for 2020.
The Calgary Elementary School Math Contest is a math competition sponsored by Mount Royal University and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences. It is made for grade 4, 5, and 6 students attending elementary school in Calgary and surrounding areas. The contests are divided into two levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Grade 6 students will write the Level-2 contest. Grade 4 and 5 students may write the Level-1 contest (or the Level-2 contest if they are very good in math and would like to challenge themselves). The contest will be written by the participants in their own school under the supervision of their school teachers. The answer sheets then will be mailed to the organizers, and they will be marked by the organizers.
The contest is 50 minutes long and consists of 20 questions ranging from easy (Part A) to more difficult (Part C). For each question, there will be 4 possible answers with one correct answer. Students are required to select the correct answer.
It is important to know that this is not an examination. There is no passing or failing grade. The goal of the contest is to try to develop an interest in mathematics on students by encouraging their participation in mathematical activities. We hope that all students who will prepare for and participate in the contest will enjoy themselves and benefit from the experience.
The registration form should be filled and sent electronically to email@example.com on or before Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Mailing of materials will begin in early April 2020.
The Ninth annual contest for this year will be written on Wednesday April 22, 2020.
