Are you, or is someone you know struggling with depression? Depression can negatively impact many areas of students’ lives, including their academic success. But, there are many resources both on and off-campus that can help students cope with depression and move forward in their academics and their lives! The LEAP Project is one of these great resources.
The LEAP Project is an 8 week online program for young people struggling with depression. Depression is a common medical illness – around 1 in 5 people will experience it at some point in their lives.
If you want to enjoy life again but aren’t sure how, the LEAP Project might be just what you need. The LEAP Project is packed with new ideas, cool videos, true stories, and simple tools to help you feel better. You’ll learn how to cope, to release past hurts, and to uncover meaning and purpose in your life. Everything on the site was created with input from young people who have experienced depression.
If you have an open mind and the courage to try something new – The LEAP Project might just be what you need to create a life free from depression. This program is free for people who:
- are experiencing depression
- are 13-24 years old and,

What should I take for my electives?
Most MRU degree programs have room for electives, and the number of electives that you need to take will depend on the program you are in. Bachelor of Arts students have up to 14 electives while Bachelor of Business Administration students may have only 2 electives depending on their major.
So “what is an elective,” you ask? Simply, an elective is any three-credit course. If you are not sure how many electives you have remaining, you can use mruGradU8 to find out (and if you have any questions, make sure you contact your academic advisor)!
You can use your electives, along with some strategic course selection in your GNEDs, for any of the following:
- to complete a minor, either within your own Faculty or outside of it
- to take courses that you think will help you in your future job(s). For example, if you would like to work in research (in any field), and your degree doesn’t require a statistics or research methods course, then those are definitely classes to look into. Some occupational designations recommend specific courses, as well
- to take a Directed Readings course to explore a discipline-specific topic in depth, or complete research
- to explore courses in a variety of fields based on a theme* of your own making (see examples below). Note that you will need to research and plan to accommodate prerequisites and availability of courses
