“Enrique’s Spanish Club is a great contribution to the academic environment of the Department of Languages and Cultures at MRU.  Students get the opportunity to attend lectures on subjects that are not normally discussed in classes, as well as get the chance to see presentations from international academics and Hispanic artists.  During my time at MRU, the Spanish Club has been a great outlet to connect in Spanish with fellow students and faculty, and to discover new topics in Hispanic studies that have enriched my academic interests.”

“I found my time at Mount Royal to be extremely valuable, especially my time with the Faculty of Spanish.  I found that the Spanish courses I took helped me in understanding the language and many cultures.  These classes also allowed me to work with native Spanish speakers, helping to challenge my own skills in Spanish, and also give me firsthand experience with the many accents and dialects, as well as cultural differences within the Spanish world.  This I found incredibly helpful throughout my world travels.  After learning a new language, I found myself with a better sense of self and ease when exploring the world around me.  The skills I learned from my Spanish classes are eminently apparent when I’m exploring in a new country. ” – Ally Gossen

“The Spanish Club was a great resource for me to enhance the skills that I learned while in the Spanish program. It’s difficult to maintain your Spanish when you don’t live in a predominantly Spanish speaking country and the Spanish Club connected me with other students who were faced with the same challenges. Together we conversed in Spanish and gained confidence in our abilities outside of the classroom. Through attending lectures and events held by or recommended by the club, I also learned about different aspects of Spain and Latin American cultures. This helped me build on what I had already learned in class and bridge the gap in areas which had not been covered. I recommend the club to all Spanish students. It was a great way to stay connected with MRU’s Spanish speaking community, network and have a more in-depth understanding of the Spanish speaking world as a whole.” – Fay Sze-To
