Calling on all students . . .

Are you working on an interesting project, on your own or as a group? Would you consider sharing your research with the MRU community?

Student Research Day, taking place Wed March 20 on Main Street this year, is a great opportunity to do just that. You can either do a research poster or a 10 minute presentation, oral or multimedia. Register by Fri, March 15 to hold your spot. The earlier you register though, the longer the period you will have access to support seminars and on-line help sessions while completing your projects.

Your posters can be printed for free!

Still not sure? Visit the Student Research Day Website for more information and check out what other students have done in previous years. The application form is also there.

The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) has announced a decision to terminate the national license agreement it has held with the American Chemical Society (ACS) since 2001 for its Web Editions and Legacy Archives products. Termination of the CRKN-ACS license will take effect at the end of December 2013.

Mount Royal University Library currently subscribes to both these ACM products via the CRKN license. In the coming months, we will be exploring our options regarding both of these subscriptions, for 2014. We may choose to contract directly with ACS, or to implement alternate arrangements and will be considering cost, access, and demand with in these options. We will be working with CRKN and consulting with our community during this process.

The decision to terminate the national agreement was taken by the CRKN Board of Directors after the organization’s negotiating team was unable to reach a renewal agreement with ACS, owing to fundamental issues with the new pricing model adopted by ACS for its international (non-US) library and consortia customers.

The full press release is available here:
