Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest (CESMC) is a mathematical
contest organized annually by the Department of Mathematics and Computing,
Mount Royal University. Because of the corona virus pandemic this year, the
organizing team has decided to run a special edition of the contest for this year. We
are pleased to invite you to enter your students in this special edition contest
scheduled to take place on Wednesday April 21, 2021 for this year.
The contest will primarily be for Grade 4, 5, and 6 students attending elementary
schools in Calgary and surrounding areas. The contests are divided into two levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Grade 6 students will write the Level-2 contest. Grade 4 and
5 students may write the Level-1 contest (or the Level-2 contest if they are very
good in math and would like to challenge themselves). The contest will be written
by the participants in their own school under the supervision of their school teachers.
The contest is 50 minutes long and consists of 20 questions ranging from easy (Part
A) to more challenging ones (Part C). For each question there will be 4 possible
answers with one correct answer. Students are required to select the correct answer.
It is important to know that this is not an examination. There is no passing or failing grade. The goal of the contest is to try to develop an interest in mathematics on students by encouraging their participation in mathematical activities. We hope that all students who will prepare for and participate in the contest will enjoy themselves and benefit from the experience.
The Special Edition contest for this year will be written on Wednesday April 21, 2021.
