Calling Bullshit: How to Lose Friends and  Alienate People
Thursday March 12-2 pm
2nd Floor Wyckham House

‘McDonald’s hamburgers don’t rot’, ‘Eating turkey makes you tired’, ‘Sugar makes children hyperactive’. Misinformation about science, health and the natural world abounds, much of it on social media. It is up to people to vet and judge the accuracy of the information they receive for themselves. Yet, the very nature of social interactions means that most of the information that we see and hear is relayed by our friends or acquaintances. Polite rules dictate that we don’t publicly disagree or embarrass others for a lack of critical thinking.

So what do you do when your friends spread misinformation?

Join Trevor Day, Professor of Biology at MRU, and Robyn Moody,  local artist and sceptic, to engage in a lively discussion about the challenges of negotiating touchy scientific topics with friends.

Light snacks will be provided.
