In the latest scam, upon visiting a compromised website the webpage displays a fake hard drive delete timer that warns the user their hard drive will be deleted within five minutes. Along with this fake timer a warning tone is also played. The scam also displays a pop-up alerting the user that their machine is infected with a virus and they must call a displayed tech support number to keep their hard drive from being deleted. These scammers often pretend to be from Microsoft or your Internet Service Provider.

If you see error messages on your screen, do not close any windows or click on any buttons. Do not call the tech support number on the screen. Disconnect your machine from the Internet or network and call the IT Service Desk at 403-440-6000 immediately.
