Sleep (Yes, please!)
ADHD can create difficulties with feeling the sleepiness that signals bed time, falling asleep, waking up at night, trouble waking up and sleepiness during the day. There is no simple fix. Post-secondary students have an added challenge of late night social time. Those who use the pressure of “tomorrow due dates” to get started on assignments will have a hard time keeping up helpful sleep routines.
Common advice such as not using the computer late at night is likely an absurd thing to ask of students. However, getting proper amounts of sleep is essential for learning and being sleep deprived worsens ADHD symptoms. So it is worth investing time some on improving sleep and experimenting with various strategies. This is one topic worth discussing with your doctor and/or counsellor.
